One Way To Fight Toxic Fitness Culture

I made this post over on my IG and it resonated so well with folks I decided to give it a permanent spot here on the blog.

Maybe it’s my years of being on the receiving end of grueling and tough training sessions as a competitive athlete or extremely intense workouts as a fitness trainer, but I am OVER the idea that your workouts should wreck you OR you aren’t doing enough if you don’t push through them come hell or high water.

When I say over it, I mean I’m tireeeedddddddd!

Because it makes fitness this ONE thing to aspire to, when it isn’t.

If you’re doing workouts outside your comfort zone, great!

If they challenge you and you love being challenged, also great!

But I want you to know that should you decide to QUIT because it’s more than you can handle in any given moment, it means NOTHING about your commitment to the process.

Quitting here can look like walking away from a workout. But it can also mean modifying it, opting for something else and resting.

It is the anti-thesis of the toxic fitness culture that exists - think the no pain, no gain or no rest days mantras - and shows not only great awareness of body and mind but beautiful respect.

Besides, being broken and burnt out, from workouts no less, is not a badge of honor.

It’s time to shift the narrative, don’t ya think?
