How To Create Happiness Not Dependent On Your ‘Dream’ Body

“I’m sweating my balls off”

A bit dramatic? Yes!

The summer heat finally made its way to the PNW (hello heatwave) and instead of being happy, I was miserable.

Isn’t it funny tho?

You want something so badly yet when you get the very thing you wanted, you realize that happiness itself isn’t IN one thing.

It’s instead a mindset thing.

The Key To Happiness

Chasing the perfect diet and fitness program to get the ‘dream’ body isn’t where you’ll find the happiness you believe is on the other side.

In all the years working with clients, whether it’s helping them create better nutrition habits or discovering their own nourishing self-care practices, happiness often comes from

  • Doing deep work like examining why nourishing habits are a struggle to begin with and why you think healthy AND happy isn’t available to you in the body you have now.

  • Confronting the toxic messages that create fear around food, dislike of your body and general distrust in yourself, and challenging them.

  • Challenging the implied assumption that all you need to do is fix what’s wrong with you and THEN you’ll be happy.

It’s really spending time wading through the sh%t you’ve been swimming in that is diet culture, unlearning and un-dieting your headspace and your habits, and cultivating a practice of kindness, care and compassion for body and total well-being.

Looking for happiness in a dream body is a lot like waiting for motivation.

It’s fleeting and unreliable endeavor because it is normal for bodies to change and especially if you’re a woman.

So, rather than wait around for it to show up in a fictional dream body or number on the scale, I invite you to claim it in the bits and pieces of small steps, mini milestones and even the tiny setbacks (where lessons abound) you experience.

Think of it like deposits into a happiness piggy bank.

Only a little breakfast vs instead of skipping it for coffee? Happiness deposit!

Walked around for 10 mins on your lunch break instead of thinking it’s not enough? Jingle jingle…there’s another one!

Spent 2 mins focusing on breathing vs the usual 15 minute meditation? Another drop in the bank!

Made it to 2 strength sessions instead of the 4 you wanted this week? Boom and another one!

(You get the idea)

The more you deposit, the more space you create for it to flow in and the more you build the habit of creating happiness on demand.
